Complexity

Complexity of the "Increase troops in Afghanistan" meme.

Complexity of the "Shut down Gitmo" meme.

Further commentary on Iraq in the same vein as my previous post.

I'm moving this week, or I'd put a little more value-added to these.

Afghanistan needs roads...

Once again, the Roman Legions lead the way. It couldn't cost too much to securely build some blacktop in Afghanistan.

I've been saying for years that if you want to win in Afghanistan, you have to change the game. And the biggest game changer there would be is to run a rail line over the Khyber pass. If we'd started in 2002, we'd be done by now. Could have been done just out of the unfulfilled foreign aid pledges.

Instead, we're still twiddling our thumbs, and now losing truck convoys.

I know that you are deployed during this season and I want to tell you that while I appreciate your service, I am especially aware of your and your family's sacrifice on this day.

Thank you.

God bless you, and thank you what you do for us, including this blog. It's the first time I've been here, (thanks to Mrs G at Mudville), and I can see that I'll be spending hours here catching up.

I hope you had a good Thanksgiving.

Hmmmm ... methinks that if you were deployed, you would receive less bruises from your better half and other Creative Anachronists.

Yeah, logistics has always been the Achilles heal of armies. It's been so since the dawn of warfare. The industrialized world cheated in the 20th century with improved transportation technology, but Afghanistan (with virtually no infrastructure) puts us right back in pre-industrial days.
